Pacnet has appointed Carl Grivner as the company’s new CEO following the sudden departure of Bill Barney in May.
Grivner joins the company from XO Communications, where he served as CEO for 12 years. Grivner has 23 years of industry experience, including roles at Worldport Communications, Cable&Wireless (western hemisphere), and Advanced Fibre Communications. He will be based in Singapore.
“Carl brings unparalleled leadership, expertise and execution track record in the telecommunications industry to Pacnet. We are excited to welcome him to the Pacnet team,” said James Ousley, chairman of Pacnet’s board of directors. “Carl has a unique combination of strategic focus and operational skills. He has a proven track record in delivering on consistent growth while maintaining operational efficiencies.”
Pacnet drew on Grivner’s success at XO Communications, where he grew revenues over 50% to $1.5 billion as a further reason for the appointment. His role in transforming XO Communications from being a local exchange carrier to a national carrier was also noted.
Grivner said: “Pacnet is Asia’s leading end-to-end communications service provider, with the largest and most far reaching submarine fibre cable system in the region. We will bring to bear Pacnet’s unique, integrated assets and talented staff to deliver innovation and value to our customers and capitalise on the rapid growth in Asia’s demand for network, data centre and CDN services.
