France Telecom-Orange launches LTE network in Dominican Republic

France Telecom Orange has become the first company to launch an LTE network in Dominican Republic.

The 4G service is now available in the Santo Domingo area, with subscribers able to access internet speeds of up to 100Mbps.

Orange was also the first company to launch the country’s first GSM network over 12 years ago, outlining its commitment to enhancing telecommunications services in the Dominican.

Local reports in the country confirmed Orange will be holding an official press conference on July 9 2012 to outline details and pricing plans for the network. Orange VP for communications, Eduardo Valcárcel, told reporters its 4G/LTE networks will surpass all mobile networks, and expects this development to herald the future of the internet in the region.
