China Telecom launches UK MVNO

24 May 2012 |

China Telecom has launched MVNO operations in the UK under the CTExcelbiz brand.

The MVNO launch is the first by a Chinese telecoms player outside of its home market.

CTExcelbiz operates using the network of UK mobile player Everything Everywhere and in an MVNA partnership with Transatel. The MVNO offers tailored pay-as-you-go mobile services aimed specifically at the UK’s Chinese population, including permanent residents, students and tourists.

Among the services being offered by the company are Chinese language voicemail services, a bi-lingual Chinese-English customer services hotline and website, unlimited free calls among CTExcelbiz users, and low cost bundles available both in store and online.

The UK launch is expected to be a platform for China Telecom to establish similar MVNO operations in other European countries.

“We are very excited to launch the CTExcelbiz brand into the UK, and offer the Chinese population here services that have not been available to them before. With Transatel’s help, we have been able to get up and running very quickly, and we look forward to expanding our international relationship with Everything Everywhere to launch in other European markets over the coming months,” said Yan Ou, MD at China Telecom Europe.

China Telecom first announced the MVNO agreement in January 2012. The carrier was said to be keen to launch operations before the London 2012 Olympics in July to offer services to Chinese tourists attending the event.
