Equinix to acquire ancotel

Equinix has entered into an agreement to acquire ancotel, a European carrier neutral co-location and interconnection service provider

The acquisition will give Equinix one data centre in Frankfurt with 2,100 square metres of capacity and 400 network customers, including 200 new networks and 6000 cross connects.

Equinix plans to use this facility to create a network-dense co-location and connectivity campus in Frankfurt, offering a mixture of networks from western and eastern Europe and significant growth opportunities for customers looking to expand their data centre footprint.

ancotel’s other assets include edge nodes in Hong Kong, London and Miami, giving Equinix additional PoPs in these markets.

“The acquisition of ancotel significantly strengthens Equinix’s value proposition and capabilities both in Europe and globally,” said Eric Schwartz, president at Equinix EMEA. “Both companies enjoy strong reputations in the market and serve the world’s leading companies. The agreement will also grow the total number of network customers available at Equinix from 700 to 900.”

ancotel generated revenue of approximately $21.4 million in 2011 and has been growing at more than 20% CAGR for the past three years.

The acquisition is expected to close in Q3 2012.
