China Telecom signs framework with AT&T

China Telecom and AT&T have signed a strategic framework agreement to deliver global solutions to multinational companies.

The move will see AT&T expand its existing IP-VPN service in China, while allowing China Telecom to connect to AT&T’s MPLS-based IP network in the US. The companies are said to also be exploring further opportunities to collaborate in other regions of the world.

It is claimed that the expansion of AT&Ts existing IP-VPN service in China will allow broader national reach. The companies also intend to jointly explore deploying an expanded suite of VPN based-services, as well as telepresence, managed hosting, cloud-based services, network integration services and enterprise mobility solutions.

“Developing this strategic framework agreement will allow customers with operations in China to take advantage of the same type of business transformational services they have in other parts of the globe,” said Roman Pacewicz, senior vice president of marketing and global strategy, AT&T Business Solutions.

The two companies have had a long standing relationship and formed a successful joint venture in 2000 with Shanghai Information Investment, called Shanghai Symphony Telecommunications.
