Gary Smith, Ciena

American President, Barack Obama, has appointed Gary Smith as the newest member of the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC).

Smith is the president and CEO of Ciena, the international telecoms vendor, having held the position of CEO since May 2001 and president since 2000. He has experience in the international market having worked in Asia, Europe and North America. Before he joined Ciena, Smith was VP of sales and marketing for Intelsat between 1995 and 1997.

Smith also serves on the board of directors for CommVault Systems and is a commissioner of the Global Information Infrastructure Commission.
