European telco Telecom Luxembourg International (TLI) is to acquire Belgian telecom operator, SD1 Telecom (SD1), for an undisclosed sum.

"The acquisition of SD1 by TLI is a strong milestone on our company’s journey and the acquisition is a logical next step and a great opportunity in the development of our portfolio of services for our customers and partners," said Julien Doussot CEO of Telecom Luxembourg International.

Once completed, this acquisition will strengthen TLI’s position in Belgium as well as in providing Internet and connectivity services to its enterprise customer base and service provider partner community.

“The TLI network will open a wider opportunity of global reach and scalability for our customers and partners,” added Philippe Magidson, managing partner of SD1.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic enterprises are accelerating their digital transformation journeys as a result of needing to get their networks secured and ready-to-use for remote working. The combination of SD1’s network with TLI’s capabilities is set to create a greater synergy for its businesses and clients.

“We are thrilled to announce the acquisition of SD1 and welcome the team to the TLI family. SD1 provides connectivity services with a strong coverage in Belgium and the Netherlands this will support us strengthening the value of our services portfolio in Europe for carrier and enterprise customers," added Doussot.

"I’m also glad to announce that Philippe Magidson, managing partner of SD1 Telecom will enter to the Board of TLI as president. His strong experience will contribute to the development of the group and the European growth. "

Overall, the acquisition reinforces TLI's position as a strong player in the Benelux region, and contributes to the expansion of its global data infrastructure with more data centre points of presence in Europe.
