HGC Global Communications has appointed Eli Ngai as its new chief information officer (CIO), effective immediately.

With a focus on digitalisation, HGC said Ngai will lead on its development of digital capabilities and infrastructure, so it can "continue to expand and enhance its fully-fledged ICT and telecom services for operators and enterprises in Hong Kong and around the world".

CEO Andrew Kwok said: “As the world enters a new era of digitalisation, HGC will continue to expand our digital capabilities, riding on our full-fledged digital infrastructure, to help our business thrive and to ensure that our customers can benefit from the best that modern ICT can offer. Combining expertise in new technologies with extensive experience in software and systems and a customer-centric approach, Eli is the ideal leader to spearhead our efforts and foster our agility.”

Completing its Hong Kong network extension at the end of last year, HGC has since

This year, HGC has capitalised on digitalisation, ICT's growing focus on Asia and its data centre operations. Highlights have included extending the Eyeball-as-a-Service (EaaS) solution to the Philippines, following the initial launch in Singapore; launching its Trio-service suite for the Singapore market; and its Macroview unit launching an enterprise security service with Deloitte.

In the data centre space, it has expanded bandwidth-on-demand capability from Hong Kong to BDx's Paya Lebar facility in Singapore and connected its fibre network to AirTrunk's HKG1.

Meanwhile, HGC's owner, I Squared Capital (ISQ), has completed its acquisition of GTT's infrastructure division; acquired Mexico's data centre operator, KIO Networks; and ploughed $500 million into renewable energy in Europe.

Commenting on his new role, Ngai said: “A key challenge in any digital transformation journey is how to realize the value stream in collaboration with all the various stakeholders. This is more about business strategy than information technology, and it is why HGC always puts the customer at the center and keeps the focus on delivering value to them faster and more efficiently. I am delighted to be part of strengthening HGC’s digital capabilities and helping HGC and our customers capture the opportunities ahead.”

Ngai specialises in software development, enterprise networking, information security and data centre virtualisation and orchestration. He joined HGC in 2019 when it acquired Macroview Telecom, where he worked for 27 years, most recently as CIO.
