Ufinet confirms the completion of its acquisition of NB Telecom, in Rio de Janeiro.

Announced back in July, the deal has now officially fulfilled its remaining local and legal conditions and through its completion expands Ufinet's network into Rio de Janeiro building on its presence in Sao Paulo.

“The entry into Rio de Janeiro market represents a great milestone for Ufinet, as it allows us to continue expanding our footprint and meet the needs of our clients in Brazil, one of the largest gateways in Latin America, thus facilitating the entry of other international operators to this very important market," said F. Javier Lacasa (pictured), chief operating officer & executive vice president of Ufinet.

"The excellent work carried out in recent years by the business development team, led by Pablo Pérez-Bedmar, has allowed us to expand the network in 7 new countries through the acquisition of key operations and greenfield projects.”

Ufinet has already developed its integration plan for NB Telecom and aims for the plan to be fully implemented in the next two months. In addition, Ufinet has already launched several projects to boost its wholesale business in Rio de Janeiro leveraging the telecoms infrastructure and operations of NB Telecom.

“Certainly, the correct strategic vision, seriousness, and credibility in all the transactions carried out by the team have been key. The involvement and understanding of the local cultures and teams of the acquired companies, as well as their shareholders and employees, has been crucial to negotiate and close a long list of operations by Ufinet in recent years. The result has been a true geographic catalyst for our expansion and business," added Pablo Pérez-Bedmar Delgado, chief business development officer of Ufinet.

It has been confirmed that NB Telecom's network is now completely integrated with Ufinet's terrestrial network in Brazil, via three diverse and completely separated underground routes between the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

In addition, Ufinet has begun the construction of a new underground route between the Recreio dos Bandeirantes of Rio de Janeiro, an area home to many subsea cable land stations, and downtown city, connecting the main data centres and PoPs in the city. Additionally, the network complys with MEF 3.0 standards throughout Rio de Janeiro.
