Indosat Ooredoo initiates 5G services in Jakarta

Indosat Ooredoo confirms the launch of commercial 5G services in Jakarta accelerate Jakarta’s digital transformation and realise its smart city vision.

“We believe 5G technology and its myriad use cases will help to revolutionise the way industries and businesses operate and the way consumers access public services and entertainment," said Ahmad Al-Neama, president director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo.

"With this launch, Indosat Ooredoo is driving forwards Indonesia’s 5G revolution and moving the nation towards a bright and 5G-enabled future.”

The newly launched 5G services will give Indosat Ooredoo’s consumer and business customers access to enhanced mobile broadband Internet, which in turn will help to accelerate Jakarta’s economic recovery and support its transition to industry 4.0.

Specifically, 5G services will support a number use cases with the potential to revolutionise the city’s manufacturing industry, public services, healthcare sector and meet growing demand for digital content and mobile-based entertainment services.

"We see that the launch of 5G services will greatly assist the recovery period of Indonesia's industry due to the pandemic," said Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Indonesia’s Minister of Industry.

"The digital technology support brought by 5G will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the processes needed to accelerate the production of goods and services so that the community can immediately enjoy the benefits and help Indonesia from all sectors to get up quickly and be more resilient to face the future."

The launch event was attended by Al-Neama as well a Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan and Director General of Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr Ir Ismail.

“We appreciate the launch of Indosat Ooredoo's 5G service in Jakarta because it can accelerate Smart City, Smart Government, and Smart Society," added Anies Baswedan, Governor of Jakarta.

"We hope that with this 5G service launch, it will bring maximum benefits to the citizens of Jakarta, and we are ready to collaborate further and make the whole city ready to take advantage of it."

The launch of Indosat Ooredoo's 5G service in Jakarta, demonstrates a number use cases partnering strategic partners such as Ericsson, Qualcomm, Indocyber, SONAR, Sari Technology x Gunadharma University, Bosch, and MPS.

“Ericsson is delighted to further strengthen our partnership with Indosat Ooredoo through providing 5G services in Jakarta," said Jerry Soper, head of Ericsson Indonesia.

"Digitalization is one of the main drivers of post-pandemic economic recovery and 5G will help Indonesia welcome a better future, further amplify digital transformation, as well as address the country’s need for stronger connectivity."

Indosat Ooredoo plans to extend the commercial roll-out of 5G services to other major cities in Indonesia, including, Surabaya, and Makassar.
