GCAs: DigiPlex - Where are they now?

Continuing our look at back at previous Global Carrier Awards winners, we move onto Nordic data centre provider, DigiPlex.

With a business founded on “sustainable, scalable and secure” facilities, it comes as no surprise that the firm took home the trophy for Best Environmental, Social, Governmental Initiative at the 2020 ceremony.

In the words of the judges, “every time you browse the internet, stream a TV series, use social media or log in to your bank, a process starts in a data centre. If that centre is a power hungry, coal fired one you are contributing to climate change – no doubt unwittingly. Climate change is now recognised as a Climate Crisis, and all businesses must put sustainability at the heart of their operations. It’s time to go green and our judges certainly were impressed by Digiplex’s take on sustainability.”

Since its win, January 2021 saw DigiPlex selected by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to host AI and High-Performance Computing (HPC) technology in its Stockholm data centre. The Stockholm campus is located close to Arlanda, the capital airport of Sweden, running on electricity from 100% renewable energy and offers 26,000 m² with up to 40MW capacity.

“Partnering with DigiPlex gives us the confidence that we have the right high-quality, truly sustainable and secure data centre to support our HPC and AI solutions for our clients,” said Anna Granö, Managing Director, HPE Sweden, at the time.

Following this, the company has continued it work at the forefront of sustainability in the industry by becoming one of the cloud infrastructure providers and data centre operators to join the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact.

Under the terms of the Pact, twenty-five companies and 17 associations have agreed to a self-regulatory initiative to make data centres in Europe climate neutral by 2030. DigiPlex joins the likes of AWS, Digital Realty/Interxion, Equinix and Google, to name a few.

Showing no signs of slowing down, DigiPlex has also acquired a plot of 110,000 m2 of land to construct five data centres for a new campus site in Denmark as well as the acquisition of a 60,000 m2 plot of land in Treklyngen industrial park in Ringerike municipality outside of Oslo.

In addition, it has appointed Fredrik Jansson and Phil Coutts as its new chief commercial officer and chief development officer respectively; and selected by Dansk Telemedicin A/S and ZealiD to host/deliver a number of its services.
