AdaptiveMobile Security has appointed Naosuke Akiyama as VP of Sales for Japan to help support the growing demands for the company’s technology and services in the Asia Pacific region.

With 24 years of industry experience, Akiyama (pictured) has previously worked for Cloudflare, Ciena, Juniper Networks, Avaya and Nortel Networks. His appointment is part of AdaptiveMobile Security's Asia Pacific expansion strategy.

Anthony Vimal, CRO of AdaptiveMobile Security, said: “Mobile operators are constantly confronted with new evolving threat vectors, especially as we transition to 5G. The convergence of IT and telecom protocols under 5G presents a much greater threat landscape for mobile operators, governments and regulators. With the huge increase of more sensitive and valuable data in the 5G core network, there is also an increase in the interest of fraudsters, hackers and nation states in getting access to this data or other attacks impacting subscribers and networks.

The appointment continues the strong momentum AdaptiveMobile Security has seen in 2021, after the firm publicly disclosed details of a major security vulnerability in the architecture of 5G Network Slicing and virtualisd network functions (VNF).

The fundamental vulnerability has the potential to allow data access and denial of service attacks between different network slices on a mobile operator’s 5G Network, leaving the mobile operator’s enterprise customers exposed to malicious cyberattacks.

Vimal continued: “Mobile operators in Japan have a long tradition of innovation and in re-imagining both the services their offer to customers and how they architect their network to deliver them. They recognise the security challenges they are facing and are turning to AdaptiveMobile Security for our award-winning mobile threat defence and intelligence capabilities. We are delighted to be expanding our presence in APAC to meet the growing demand we’re seeing from the region and to be welcoming Akiyama to the team with his depth of experience from across IT and telecoms.”
