Kris Schaffer to lead Telstra’s Canadian operations

Telstra has named Kris Schaffer as its Canada country lead in support of accelerated growth in the Toronto area.

With a 20+ year career working with some of Canada’s biggest enterprises, Schaffer  (pictured above) is a regular speaker and contributor at industry events and forums. Prior to her appointment, Schaffer held a range of leadership and customer-facing roles.

Most recently Schaffer served as business development executive at ISM Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary of IBM, where she helped companies with cloud-based business intelligence, advanced analytics and big data solution initiatives.

Before this, she served as enterprise sales client director for Compugen, senior sales account executive with Long View Systems and a regional manager for Mitel Networks Solution. Earlier this this, she worked with Bell Canada as account executive over an eight-year period. She has also worked with TELUS Communications.

At the time of the announcement, Karl Paterson  (pictured below) was named as business development executive, reporting directly into Schaffer.

Paterson re-enters the role with more than 10 years of sales telco and technology industry experience. He returns to the company after relocating from Australia to Toronto in 2020. He previously served as an enterprise key account manager for some of the largest organisations in Australia with Telstra Enterprise in Melbourne.

In related news, Telstra Americas recently launched a new point-of-presence (PoP) in Toronto and upgraded its infrastructure to connect Canada to its trans-Pacific subsea cables. As such, Canadian companies seamlessly connectivity to markets across Asia.

At the start of the year, edge data centre company Cologix has expanded its global reach by partnering with Telstra with a new PoP at Cologix’s TOR1 interconnection hub in Toronto, Canada. The PoP was Telstra’s first in Canada, giving Cologix and Telstra customers access to low latency connectivity between Canada and Asia Pacific.
