Charl Tintinger, the CTO of Gigaclear, has taken on the role of chief technology officer at rural broadband provider Airband.

Tintinger (pictured right), who spent a little over four years with Gigaclear and has also worked for Vodafone, Lebara and GiffGaff will now take the lead on scaling Airband's network capabilities to support its growth targets. He will also lead Airband's FTTP builds around the UK, which include the £4.5 million contract announced in January to deliver full-fibre broadband to more than 4,000 properties across rural or hard-to-reach areas of Cheshire, England.

Airband founder and MD Redmond Peel (pictured left) said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming Charl to the team. He joins us at an incredibly exciting time, and his experience and expertise will be critical in helping to guide us forward as we continue to grow. I’ve no doubt he will be an asset to the team. Welcome, Charl!”

Tintinger's appointment follows recent high-value contract wins across the UK and an investment from Aberdeen Standard Investments. Airband said the CTO appointment was "the natural next step in this journey, and his expertise will support Airband to deliver even better connectivity services to those that need it most".

Commenting on his new role, Tintinger added: “I’m really excited to be joining the Airband team. It is a fast-growing organisation that is driving real change and having a big impact on people’s lives, and that is a purpose that resonates deeply with me. With our shared values, Airband feels like a natural fit for me, and I can’t wait to get stuck in!”
