European cloud hosting company UpCloud is opening its new data centre, AU-SYD1, in Sydney, Australia.

After three global data centre openings in 2020, UpCloud’s latest data centre will be opened in the financial capital of Australia, and it is the company’s first data centre in Oceania.

Equinix’s flagship Sydney data centre SY5, where UpCloud’s new AU-SYD1 is located, belongs to the data centre campus in Sydney.

“We’ve had a large base of users from Australia and New Zealand using our Singapore data centre for a long time,” said UpCloud’s CEO Antti Vilpponen.

“Many of them asked us to expand our service offering to Australia. We also believe that Australian users will value a new cloud provider offering a more premium level of features, such as 100% uptime SLA, 24/7 technical support, and personal approach.”

The company said the data centre will be available starting from 31 March 2021, and also features the AMD EPYC processors with more CPU cores and increased performance.

“Geographical proximity to a data centre results in better latency,” added UpCloud’s founder and CTO Joel Pihlajamaa.

“Therefore, location in Sydney will especially improve service provided to businesses with users in Australia and Oceania.”

The company plans to continue providing cloud infrastructure and relies on its partners to create added value to the end users.

“With the Sydney data centre opening, UpCloud is also planning to broaden their local partners' network,” added the company in a written release.

“The company is looking for new partners among digital agencies and managed services providers as well as hosting and reseller companies.”

UpCloud said it will continue its expansion to new regions in 2021, with the company promising multiple new locations across the globe in the near future.

Last year, they launched three new sites - in New York, Madrid and Warsaw, and the AU-SYD1 data centre is the company’s 12th data centre in the world.
