Systems integrator Tyto Athene is to buy AT&T’s US government professional services business.

Private equity-owned Tyto already provides design, installation and support of complex voice, data, and security networks for customers in the US federal government, the Pentagon and other areas in the US public sector.

AT&T, which has not given a price for the sale, has made it clear that it will remain active in the public sector — the FirstNet network for US-wide police and other emergency services as well as other telecoms business.

Anne Chow (pictured), who remains CEO of AT&T Business, said: “Divesting these assets aligns with our strategy to support and serve our public sector customers with our industry leading networking solutions.”

Tyto Athene plans to combine the unit it is buying, AT&T Government Solutions Inc (GSI), with its existing business, the government solutions division of Black Box, and Island Information Technology Consultants, bought in 2019, which works with the intelligence community.

Chow said: “We remain firmly committed to enabling our clients’ success across the public sector, including defence, civilian, national security and public safety agencies, and helping them modernise their infrastructure in support of their missions. We look forward to the opportunity to work with Tyto Athene to meet the needs of our federal customers.”

Chris Meilhammer, president and COO of Tyto Athene, said: “We believe that the cultures of Tyto and GSI are highly complementary as both are focused on delivering superior solutions to the customer and mission.”

He added: “We will continue to be poised to benefit from the secular tailwinds of US government investment in legacy IT modernisation and cybersecurity efforts. Tyto looks forward to teaming with AT&T to identify and pursue opportunities in the DoD [Department of Defense] and beyond.”
