Yotta Infrastructure has unveiled plans for a US$150 million, 240Mw data centre park in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Expanding its hyper-scale portfolio in the country, the new park will be set across 20 acres, and feature  six interconnected data center buildings. With 30,000 racks of capacity and dedicated fibre connectivity, Yotta’s Kolkata data centre will also offer inter-data centre connectivity to connect the data centre to other facilities, as well as fibre landing stations and POPs.

The first data centre building is due to go live in early 2023.

“Yotta continues to become the preferred data center provider for enterprises and hyperscaler’s, cloud players and OTT players. We are committed to invest in India and emerging markets and expand our footprint to provide quality digital infrastructure facilities," said Sunil Gupta (pictured), co-founder and CEO, Yotta Infrastructure.

"Within a short span of time, we are now present across all regions in India, that is, West, South, North, and East," he added.

Demand for the park will be driven by the upcoming Silicon Valley at New Town, Rajarhat, West Bengal, in addition to the general uptick in activity actross the eastern region and neighbouring countries.

The news followed the recent project with Essar Capital and the launch of Yotta NM1, near Mumbai, in January. NM1 is currently Asia’s largest and the world’s second-largest Uptime Institute Tier IV certified data centre.

Speaking to Capacity last year, Gupta said the facility " endorses our quality and scalability in terms of space, power and connectivity".

He added: "Our [NM1] data centre campus houses our power distribution infrastructure; we are also licensed to distribute the power via our group company. For green energy, we are commissioning our solar power plant and natural gas-based power generation plant adjacent to the data centre. This will make us self-reliant in our power needs, and in-turn will offer our customers considerable savings on power tariff."
