Cheshire awards £4.5m contract to Airband
Cheshire Council has awarded connectivity provider Airband a £4.5 million contract to deliver full-fibre broadband to over 4,000 properties across rural or hard-to-reach areas of Cheshire.
“We are excited to have won this contract. Our focus has always been on expanding and simplifying digital access for rural communities,” said Redmond Peel, founder and director of Airband.
“With access to high-quality broadband fast becoming a human right, we can’t wait to get started building the network that will give residents of rural and hard-to-reach areas of Cheshire the connectivity they deserve.”
The project is due to start in early 2021 with completion set for March 2023 and Airband will roll out Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP), gigabit-capable, full fibre broadband to homes and businesses across the county.
“The fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) deal with Airband comes at a key time during the pandemic, to provide optimum connectivity to homeworkers and businesses across Cheshire East,” added Councillor Nick Mannion, Cheshire East Council’s cabinet member for environment and regeneration.
“The innovative methods to connect hard-to-reach and rural areas will certainly boost work productivity and streaming family entertainment services during national lockdown and beyond.
SatADSL Telespazio Brazil form connectivity partnership
SatADSL and Telespazio have formed a new connectivity partnership that will see Telespazio Brazil offer their connectivity via SatADSL’s Cloud-service Delivery Platform (C-SDP) and the Yahsat3 satellite, providing 26 Ka-band spot beams supported by ST Engineering technology.

Orange Business Services to deploy SD-WAN for 1,800 retail sites in France
BNP Paribas has chosen Orange Business Services to deploy an SD-WAN solution in more than 1,800 of its bank branches across France.
By using Flexible SD-WAN from Orange Business Services, BNP Paribas gains a modern and agile platform to accelerate its digital transformation. This in turn enables quick and easy deployment of multiple services, such as dynamic routing and path selection, with scalability and flexibility.
It also enables administrators to monitor infrastructure performance and resolve potential network congestion through simple software modifications, thereby optimising application performance.
In addition, by deploying SD-WAN, BNP Paribas can take advantage of a fully secure hybrid network that is natively multi-cloud, multi-access and multi-application.

Lightstorm Telecom Ventures picks Ciena for high-capacity network
Lightstorm Telecom Ventures (LTV) has deployed Ciena’s coherent optics, network management and advanced automation software for its OTT, data centre and cloud providers.

As a carrier-neutral infrastructure provider in India, this deployment will transform LTV’s metro and long-distance network delivering low latency and high-capacity digital services.
LTV’s network covers more than 10,000 kilometres and 60 data centres in five cities, including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad, as well as subsea cable landing stations providing high-capacity connectivity to Mumbai and Chennai.

Amagi picks GTT to support its cloud managed broadcast services
Amagi, a global SaaS provider of broadcast and streaming TV technology, has selected GTT’s network to deliver its cloud managed broadcast services to clients in Europe and the US.

In addition, GTT will enable the ability to book occasional use video services between Amagi’s London broadcast distribution nodes and global high-profile venues, as well as dedicated Tier 1 internet access for Amagi’s Amsterdam and London broadcast distribution nodes, enabling remote access to its public cloud-hosted SaaS.
