Italy’s international service provider Sparkle has partnered with TOP-IX, the Torino Piemonte internet exchange, marking its 12th European internet exchange point.

The carrier neutral and non-profit interconnection point is located in North West Italy and, through this agreement, the 120 networks already connected at TOP-IX will now benefit from Sparkle’s global Tier-1 IP Transit service Seabone and City2City transport solutions available at TOP-IX marketplace.

In addition, with Virtual NAP, Sparkle can grant other national and international ISPs, content providers and network operators the opportunity to access TOP-IX peering community without having to implement and manage a proprietary infrastructure nor bearing the costs of colocation.

TOP-IX is the 12th internet exchange points interconnected by Sparkle. The other points are located in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan, Palermo, Paris, Marseille, Rome and Sofia - improving the coverage of Sparkle’s Virtual NAP service in Europe.

TOP-IX (TOrino Piemonte Internet eXchange) is a non-profit consortium set up in 2002 to create and manage an Internet Exchange (IX) to exchange Internet traffic in North West Italy, that is now leveraging as a gateway for Italy with different fibre paths.

It counts 89 consortium members, among them BT, Cisco, Colt, GTT and Tiscali.
