Malaysian mobile operator has selected Siae Microelettronica as its vendor of choice to implements integrated IP/MPLS services across its wireless backhaul network.

Specifically, Celcom will leverage Siae Microelettronica’s L3 microwave radio AGS20 to enhance the performance of its existing LTE and soon to be launched 5G services.

“Siae Microelettronica has been a Celcom wireless backhaul technology partner since the launch of 3G, with products and extensive service offering” said Stefano Poli, president of Siae Microelettronica, Asia Pacific.

Adding that the deal “confirms our partnership in these pivotal technologies reinforce our relationship and reciprocal trust”

The partnership builds on the long-standing collaboration between Celcom and Siae Microelettronica for over a decade and together the two have recently achieved important milestones, advancing the technology level of the network.

In July 2019 Celcom deployed the first 10Gbps millimetre wave radio in the country, ALFOplus80HDX, in a 5G live trial serving 4500 users. In addition, Celcom will soon activate AGS20’s IP/MPLS integrated engine to support layer-3 services.

Additionally, the network is ready for migration to software-defined network (SDN), simplifying the integration of network applications to maximise network up-time, minimise traffic interruptions and simplify all operation interventions across the backhaul network.

Looking ahead, Siae Microelettronica says it will continue to support Celcom in maintaining the front seat for network innovation in the region, closely working together on the development of their 5G transport network.
