NetIX upgrades its Russian connectivity options

NetIX has enhanced its service offering by upgrading its presence in Moscow and improving its range of connectivity options into the Russian capital.

The connectivity improvements have enhanced NetIX’s services two-fold with the installation of an additional 10G switch in the M9 data centre. This has enabled more customers to access the platform from this location, and the Moscow Internet Exchange (MSK-IX) link has been upgraded to 10G allowing more customers to peer at the Moscow-based exchange.

The news follows the increasing demands and high volumes of traffic travelling across NetIX’s network during the global Covid-19 lockdown. As a result, access to MSK-IX needed to be upgraded from 2.5G to 10G to continue to offer lower latency, reduced IP Transit costs, and improved resiliency and redundancy to NetIX’s 140+ global members.

“We’re thrilled to see Russian connectivity demand increase,” said Dean Belev (pictured), vice president of services at NetIX.

“Whilst NetIX is a global network with presence across six continents, our presence across Eastern Europe and Russia is unmatched and for many of our Asian and US-based customers this makes us stand out from the crowd; through just one cross connect, one port and one contract, they can access a huge number of peering only available in this region.”

In related news, July saw NetIX boost its global footprint through a series of network upgrades on the East Coast US, starting with the Equinix Ashburn Point of Presence (PoP).

At the time, NetIX said the move would replicate similar capabilities already available in Europe, where members can access any of the 66 on-net European locations through a single cross connect.

While in May, the company’s IXaaS solution was expanded to offer more options to networks globally, enabling customers to pick and choose which of  66 separate key components that together make a fully functioning IXP.
