Tata secures type B telecoms license in Saudi Arabia

Tata Communications has been awarded a type B telecom license in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, officially upgrading the firm from a foreign carrier to a licensed local operator.

Under the license Tata Communications will become a become a carrier-neutral service provider to OTTs, large enterprises and MNCs in the region. It will be able to provide ISP and related telecom services to enterprises in a defined capacity, along with local currency billing for end-customers in Saudi Arabia.

Further, the firm will offer network transformation services in Saudi Arabia and address SDWAN requirements across the region.

Tata Communications’ Vaneet Mehta, associate VP and region head, Middle East, Central Asia and Africa, said: “The Type B telecom license in KSA, will enable us to seamlessly bring carrier-neutral services like internet connectivity, public/private cloud, cyber security, borderless mobility and more such services to the region. This will help simplify the digital experience for our customers and aid them in transforming their businesses in the new normal.

“A strong digital backbone has become essential for businesses to address the changes in the industry landscape,” Mehta added.  

Tata Communications owns and operates the world’s only wholly owned subsea network, connecting businesses to more than 200 countries and territories. Today, around 30% of the world’s internet routes travel over Tata Communications’ network.
