AT&T, CWA extend Southwest wireline contract

AT&T has announced that AT&T Southwest wireline operations and CWA District 6 have agreed to a 4-year extension of the Southwest wireline contract.

The extended agreement covers over 14,000 employees in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

Effective as of 11 April 2021 and expires on 12 April 2025. Until 11 April 2021, employees are continuing to work under their current contract.

NXTCOMM names Carl Novello as CTO

NXT Communications Corporation (NXTCOMM) has appointed Carl Novello as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

In his new role, Novello will lead NXTCOMM's product development efforts to bring transformational flat panel antenna solutions to mobility markets.

He will oversee product engineering, design and development for NXTCOMM's line of advanced electronically steered antennas that will deliver unprecedented broadband connectivity to mobile platforms.

"NXTCOMM will help me realise what I've wanted to do for 20 odd years, which is bring connectivity to the masses," said Novello. "The solution starts with understanding what problem you need to solve for the customer. If you understand the user, you win the market."

FirstLight expands fibre network in Pennsylvania

FirstLight confirms that it is expanding its fibre optic network further into the State of Pennsylvania.

The project adds over 1,000 route miles of fibre in eastern Pennsylvania, with coverage in Allentown, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Scranton, Reading and Wilkes-Barre.

The expansion is in direct response to market and customer demand for increased fibre-based solutions and will provide businesses along these new routes with access to FirstLight's portfolio of services.

"Our expansion into eastern Pennsylvania is designed to not only support a wireless carrier's roll out of 5G, but will also provide organizations in industries such as education, healthcare, finance, government, manufacturing and more with access to the superior connectivity solutions that they require to succeed in today's digital world," said Kurt Van Wagenen, president and CEO of FirstLight.  

BENOCS Analytics delivers network intelligence for KPN

BENOCS GmbH in now available in the KPN network, providing KPN with detailed network traffic visibility via an easy-to-use user interface.

By installing BENOCS Analytics, KPN has acquired a high performing tool that gives them the ability to monitor traffic, troubleshoot problems, seek new business opportunities, to name few.

We had to do some smart upgrades to maintain high quality routes for our end users. BENOCS was of crucial importance in this process. It also helps us with capacity forecasting,” said Rob de Ruig, interconnection manager at KPN.

SSE and NYnet deploy infrastructure to support Covid-19 patients

SSE Enterprise Telecoms has been working with long term partner NYnet to support infrastructure development of an NHS Extended Access Hub in North Shields, Tyne and Wear in the North East of England.

The hub was developed to support medical staff help Covid-19 patients that required treatment in a secure facility but do not need urgent hospital care.

For added robustness, resiliency and reliable connectivity Ethernet was chosen as the best solution to facilitate the needs and requirements of the on-site medical professionals. 

Delivery of the circuit was completed in just eight working days. Once the circuit was deployed, NYnet was able to quickly install a router and connect the site to the Health & Social Care Network (HSCN).

“When NYnet reached out to us for Ethernet connectivity, we did everything in our power to work with providers across the industry to make the deployment of the project as quick and painless as possible,” said Simon Willmott, sector director for service provider at SSE Enterprise Telecoms.

The successful completion of this deployment has been a real team effort and is a testament to the commitment of businesses across the sector in coming together during the pandemic to make sure the lives of those on the front line, and their patients, are a little bit easier.”
