CITIC names new CEO and vice chairman

CITIC Telecom CPC has appointed Frank Cai as its new vice chairman and Esmond Li as its new CEO.

Effective immediately, Cai (pictured above) will leverage his more than 20 years’ experience in the telecoms industry as vice chair of CITIC Telecom CPC as well as vice chair for China Enterprise ICT Solutions Limited. Prior to his appointment, Cai held various senior executive positions at China Telecommunications Corporation and China Netcom Corporation.

"The recent economic situation is challenging and I'm excited to be joining CITIC Telecom CPC at this point of time to continue unleashing the Company's full potential," said Cai.

“I look forward to continuously evolve and grow by creating more synergies and shared vision with the Group, to leading CITIC Telecom CPC to create more possibilities, and reaching new heights." 

As for Li (pictured below), he in turn brings over 35 years’ experience in finance and accounting to the role and will serve as both CFO as he did previously, as well as this new appointment as CEO of CITIC Telecom CPC. Li will leverage his strong analytical skills and entrepreneurial thinking to help drive the company’s growth.

“It is my honour to take up the role of CEO at CITIC Telecom CPC. I had worked as chief financial officer of CITIC Telecom CPC from 2004 to August 2019, witnessed the company's success in its business transformation and maximizing the returns," said Li.  

“I believe that 'people' is [sic] one of the key factors to move the company forward. To join hands with the group and management, I will continue to drive steadfastly in growing the company and achieving greater footprint with the team."

Prior to his time at CITIC Li worked for Netalone.com Limited, the Cable & Wireless HKT group and EY (formerly Ernst & Young). 

Li’s appointment follows the retirement of Stephen Ho, who left the position January 2020 after 20 years in the role.
