Windstream Wholesale has entered into a partnership with Sparkle to provide wave connectivity to its US IP network.

“Our customer-tailored routes coupled with our unique domestic network density in Tier 1, 2 and 3 cities make us an ideal provider for international carriers, content providers, fibre operators and others needing domestic diversity and redundancy,” said Joe Scattareggia (pictured), executive vice president for wholesale sales at Windstream. “We are delighted to enable Sparkle to grow its customer base through our newly established presence in the Equinix LA1 data centre.”

This connection will run from Sparkle’s point of presence (PoP) in El Paso interconnecting at Equinix’s LA1 International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in LA. Leveraging Windstream’s long-haul routes give carriers between 10Gbps and 100Gbps wavelength services that they require.

“Windstream Wholesale is a valued participant in the ecosystem of world-class providers offering their services on Platform Equinix,” said Adam Janota, senior director of business development at Equinix. “Windstream’s 10Gbps and 100Gbps wavelength services offer a strong option for the bandwidth needs of carriers operating within Equinix’s Los Angeles area IBX data centres. Additionally, we are excited to support Windstream and Sparkle connectivity to the Mexico market.”

Based in downtown LA and directly connect to the three other Equinix IBX data centres (LA2, LA3 and LA4) via low-latency dark fibre connections, the LA1 IBX gives access to Equinix IBX data centres in 38 major markers globally.

“We are delighted to work with Windstream. Their high-quality long-haul connectivity from El Paso to Los Angeles will add diversification to our existing routes, thus strengthening our IP Transit offer to the Mexican market,” said Barbara Sole, director of IP & capacity services at Sparkle.

Earlier this month, Windstream Enterprise and VMware extended its three-year collaboration, delivering SD-WAN solutions supported by VeloCloud.
