Telefónica establishes digital consumer business unit

Telefónica has announced the creation of its Chief Digital Consumer Office (CDCO), a new global unit focused on the company’s digital sales processes.

Announced as part of Telefónica’s 5-point action plan published last year, the new division aims to transform and accelerate product and services sales processes and customer relations by making them more digital, faster and simpler.

Led by Chema Alonso, the CDCO will be responsible for driving innovation at all levels within the company. One part will be to promote the development and launch of new digital products and services, particularly in the digital home space. The other is to promote innovation in core parts of the business such as networks, working closely with other the business units as well as with the entrepreneurial community through its open innovation program.

Joining Alonso to lead this new division are a number of other appointments to the management team.

Francisco José Montalvo has been named as chief data officer, he will oversee the development of databased products and maximise synergies between Telefónica's different operations worldwide.

David del Val is appointed as director of core innovation; he is responsible for driving innovation across the network in such areas as edge computing.

Antonio Guzmán has been named director of digital home and is responsible for developing new products and services for the home portfolio.

Also joining the team is Fabio Bruiggioni, as digital consumer director. He will supervise the transformation and digitalisation of businesses commercial processes.

The new Connected Open Innovation network will now be integrated into the CDCO and led by Irene Gómez. Rubén Mellado, director of technology & entertainment services operations will be responsible for increasing the catalogue of services such as video. 

And lastly, José Palazón as chief technology officer; José Parada as chief information security officer; Olvido Nicolás as digital consumer marketing director; María Garzón as control director; and Gabriela Gross as head of people, complete the line-up of Telefónica's new CDCO.
