At the time of discovering the attack, the company release a statement saying that it was the victim of a cyber-attack “hat many institutions and even states in the world may be exposed to, and this time the attacks are made for Türk Telekom's DNS.”

Once service was re-established on Monday 20 January it released a follow up statement saying that it has resolved the problem which was cause by a “foreign operator” and that both domestic and international internet traffic had returned to normal.
