Sparkle has expanded the reach of its IP backbone Caucasus region with the opening of a new point of presence (PoP) in Yerevan, Armenia.

Launched in partnership with Ucom, a fixed and mobile service provider in Armenia, the new PoP is fully integrated with Sparkle’s global Tier-1 IP transit service Seabone.

Seabone is a global Internet networks worldwide that provides high-speed Internet connectivity of up to 100Gb with the high levels of availability and resiliency.

The infrastructure in Yerevan is set to support the increasing demand of internet connectivity coming from the local market. In addition, it extends Sparkle’s IP backbone reach in the region, providing to OTTs, internet service providers, content and application providers with a terrestrial and more direct IP transit route in the Caucasus region with lower latency compared to the traditional paths.

The portfolio of Sparkle services to be offered via the new PoP include, DDoS Attack Mitigation, which grants Seabone customers the option to protect their network and the Virtual NAP solution - which allow customers to access the main Internet Exchange Points without the need to build any proprietary infrastructure.

The new PoP in Yerevan is a further step towards Sparkle’s ambition to expand into the Caucasus and accelerate the development of digital and value added services in the region.

Last month, also added two new PoPs in Milan. Located in Cornaredo and in the city centre, the new sites extend Sparkle’s city ring in Milan creating a digital ecosystem that is unique in Italy and competitive in Europe. In addition, the increased infrastructure will meet the increasing connectivity needs of the city and of its industrial ecosystem.

Sparkle was also the winner of two Awards at the 2019 Global Carrier Awards in London. Click here to see the full list of winners.
