TIM’s international arm, Sparkle, has expanded its Latin American reach with a new point of presence (PoP) in Huechuraba, in the northern suburbs of Santiago.

Sparkle said this strengthened the performance of its global IP transit service, Seabone, and consolidated its positioning as a Tier-1 IP backbone in South America.

Huechuraba adds to the existing two PoPs in Santiago, providing high-speed internet connectivity to the local market as well as to international OTTs, ISPs, content and application providers.

The new PoP adds to the recent interconnection to PIT Chile in Santiago, a public, neutral and open internet exchange point (IXP), first in Chile and among the top IXPs in South America.

Sparkle said that, by joining PIT Chile’s ecosystem, it is able to offer virtual NAP solutions to local and regional operators wishing to access the peering community without having to implement and manage a proprietary infrastructure, as well as IP transit services to all the IXP members.

Sparkle said it now has a proprietary and redundant state-of-the-art network crossing eight countries in Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.
