CDNetworks has launched its Edge Computing Platform Service (ECP), which allows customers to deploy and scale-up their microwave container-based applications.

The new offering will meet growing business demands with secure, ultra-low latency, high-bandwidth computing.

"CDNetworks Edge Computing Platform dramatically reduced lag time which resulted in an exceptional online gaming multiplayer user experience," Mathieu Duperre, CEO and founder, Edgegap.

The ECP puts compute, storage and network resources as close as possible to end-users. In doing so, reduces operating costs by up to 40%. Additionally, it reduces data transport, decreases latency and increases data locality. The ECP is a container orchestration system built on Kubernetes and Docker for developers to write container-based applications once and rolled out everywhere.

"By leveraging our existing 1500+ global edge locations, CDNetworks will be at the forefront of the burgeoning edge computing services market, supporting our customers in addressing the requirements of new applications such as AI, ML, gaming, IoT and autonomous cars as Edge Computing becomes mainstream over the next decade," added Tim Zou, CEO, CDNetworks.

The platform features: App auto deployment, security, open APis, layer 4/7 load balancing and IPv6 support to name a few. In addition, Kubernetes features include automated application deployment, automatic rolling updates and horizontal pod auto scaling.

Additionally, the ECP also takes advantage of the company’s global network, which features more than 1,500 global edge PoP locations, 50+ Tbps network bandwidth and <50 ms low latency.

In related news, CenturyLink made its own announcement surrounding edge computing pledging to make a multi-million dollar investment in the build and support of this new technology. Part of this plan includes creating more than 100 initial edge compute locations across the US and providing a range of hybrid cloud solutions and managed services. In doing so, customers can advance their next-gen digital initiatives with technology that integrates resilient, low-latency networking with cloud service provider platforms in customised configurations.
