London-based law firm Mishcon de Reya has appointed telecoms lawyer Stephanie Liston to lead its regulatory practice.

Liston, who was once a board member of UK regulator Ofcom, has chaired panels and spoken at Capacity Media events. She is founder and director of Women in Telecoms and Technology.

Kevin Gold, managing partner of Mishcon de Reya, said: “We are very pleased that Stephanie is joining us as senior counsel and head of the regulatory group. The regulatory regime is continuing to evolve at a significant pace and Stephanie brings with her a depth of experience that will help our clients navigate the rules and rule-makers.”

Liston is a qualified lawyer in the US, the UK and the British Virgin Islands (BVI). She has worked in the telecoms industry since the early 1990s, when she was senior attorney at MCI – long since absorbed into Verizon – in Washington DC.

Among the law firms she has worked with before Mishcon are Baker & McKenzie, Freshfields, McDermott, Will & Emery, and WilmerHale.

She has been a director of the European Competitive Telecoms Association (ECTA) and she became a board member of Ofcom in 2005. More recently she has been chief legal adviser to the BVI telecoms regulator.

Mishcon’s regulatory group currently has 25 partners across the firm in 12 different practice areas. Liston said: “In the current climate, awareness and an understanding of the regulatory landscape is essential for businesses. I look forward to supporting the firm as it continues to guard its clients’ interests and meet their changing needs.”
