Batelco announces senior appointments amid company reshuffle
Bahrain’s Batelco has announced a number of new executive appointments to its senior management team, part a major restructuring plan.
The new appointments come as part of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA) 4th National Telecoms Plan, which requires the company to separate into two separate entities one for the retail and enterprise business, the other for the new national broadband infrastructure.
Batelco Bahrain will be the entity responsible for the retail and enterprise division focussing on enhancing services and solutions for consumer and business customers. Heading up this new company is Mikkel Vinter (pictured below), who has been named as CEO. Vinter enters the role having founded Virgin Mobile, Middle East & Africa and served as its CEO from 2006 to 2016. In addition, he has also held senior roles with such companies as Nawras in Oman, TDC in Denmark and Singtel in Singapore.
As for the newly formed National Broadband Network, this company will be responsible for the country’s broadband network and delivering telecom services to all licenced operators. Mohamed Bubashait (pictured below) has been appointed to this new position having lead the separation programme since joining Batelco Bahrain as CEO in 2017.
In addition, Ihab Hinnawi (pictured below) has been announced as CEO of the company’s International investments where he will oversee the restructure of Batelco’s international operations in line with Batelco’s development strategy. Hinnawi has held the position of Group CEO since.
Back in April, Batelco Umniah and the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO) joined together to launch a new over ground fibre-optic network. The creation of this new large-scale fibre-optic network infrastructure will service the areas operated by JEPCO. It will also deliver wholesale high-bandwidth internet services to telecom companies and service providers, eventually reaching more than 1.4 million homes and businesses.
