“MAREA is the highest capacity cable system in the world offering a key diverse route across the Atlantic. The combination of Telia’s European and North American terrestrial network and Telxius’ newest 6,600km trans-Atlantic cable, gives both companies not only additional network support and reach, it will also create a bridge linking US to other cable systems that connect to Northern Europe, Africa and Asia.

MAREA is an 8 fibre-pair, 200Tbps system that runs from Sopelana in the north of Spain to Virginia Beach in the US. The Sopelana landing is connected to an existing fibre network linking major hubs like Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and London.
Conversely Telia Carrier is the owner operator of an extensive backbone network that provides critical network infrastructure, services and cloud connectivity to operators, content providers and enterprises. Telia’s network spans more than 280 PoPs with 65,000km of fibre across Europe, The Americas, Asia and the Middle East.
