Indonesian operator XL Axiata says is it building the first transport network in south-east Asia that is ready for 5G services.

The network, which will use Huawei optical networking kit, will cover the whole country to support XL Axiata’s expansion in individual, home and enterprise services, and accelerate the digital transformation process of enterprises.

XL Axiata CTO Yessie Dianty Yosetya (pictured), said: “We are reconstructing the transport network to provide fixed mobile convergence businesses. We are confident that this solution will provide optimal network experience for all customers across Indonesia and help them better enjoy digital life.”

To accelerate transformation into an all-service operator, XL Axiata said it is promoting unified planning and construction of the entire transport network and building a simplified 5G-ready network to enhance its leading position in the 5G era.

XL Axiata said at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this week that it will use Huawei’s optical networking solution.

Richard Jin, president of Huawei’s transmission and access product line, said: “This is an important milestone in the global commercial use of Optical Networking 2.0.”

Yosetya added: “Huawei’s solution supports the construction of a high-bandwidth, low-latency and simplified transport network, which effectively matches our strategic goal for network simplification.”
