Hengtong has been picked to manufacture and supply 3000km of subsea cable to Chile as part of FOA cable project.

The delivery of the cable to Chile means the Chinese company has now supplied more than 10,000km of subsea cable for projects overseas as it continues to grow.

The FOA, or Fibre Optic Austral, subsea cable system will run along the coast of Chile, connecting Puerto Montt with Puerto Williams, with two braches to Tortel and Punta Arenas. Chile’s Comunicación y Telefonía Rural picked Huawei Marine to build the cable in March.

Huawei Marine said it will provide an end-to-end submarine cable solution using its 100G universal platform to provide a seamless optical network architecture between submarine and terrestrial networks. The system has a design capacity of 16Tbps and a length of 2,800 kilometres. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

Qian Jianlin, executive president of Hengtong Group, stated that Hengtong was committed to creating a submarine industry supply chain of integrating product, engineering and operation service to promote the implementation of the "one Belt and one Road" initiative and contribute to global connection during a presentation ceremony to celebrate the company hitting the 10,000km of cable milestone.

On November 26, Hengtong also released a number of new products including submarine equipment fitting stations, a stereo intelligent anchor observation system, two-stage composite cables for application to marine disasters prevention pre-warning networks, an environmental monitoring system for port and wharf, as well as underwater oil and gas production and monitoring system, demonstrating Hengtong’s technology, quality, production and delivery capability.

It was recently named as a partner in the construction of the PEACE Cable through its subsidiary PEACE Cable International Network. PEACE – Pakistan East Africa Connecting Europe – will run from Pakistan to North Eastern Africa, through Egypt and ultimately terminating in France.

Recently, PCCW Global and Orange signed on as partners for the PEACE Cable. System, which is also being built by Huawei Marine.
