Telia Carrier has announced that The Quilt, a non-profit research and education network coalition in the US, has renewed its partnership with the company as supplier.

Under the terms of the renewed agreement, Telia Carrier will once again continue to extend its fibre backbone to The Quilt’s members.

“The Quilt participants have a reputation for combining leading edge experiences and influencing the US information technology infrastructure agenda,” said Stephen Hartman, head of North Americas region at Telia Carrier. “Telia Carrier appreciates The Quilt’s continued support and trust, which reinforces the value of our reliable network services and extensive geographic reach in the North American market and beyond.”

The contract continues an existing eight-year partnership between the two companies. For their part, Telia will provide IPv4 and IPv6 performance, scale and flexibility required by The Quilt infrastructure providers for their IP Transit services, delivering more than 300Gbps of internet capacity to its members.

The Quilt enables its users to leverage Telia Carrier’s reach, reliability with many using the company’s Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection. In addition, The Quilt members also have access to the company’s Cloud Connect service, allowing them to directly connect to cloud service providers.

The Quilt acts as network aggregators that provide network services supporting research and education.

In October, Infinera collaborated with Telia Carrier achieving real-time transmission of 600Gbps on a wavelength in a live production network. The trial achieved 600G single-wavelength transmission from Palo Alto to San Francisco across Telia Carrier’s production network, which is built on Infinera’s FlexILS platform.
