The £29 million expansion of LD4 at Equinix’s London Slough campus was completed earlier this year and the Options deployed is schedule to take place in January 2019 – adding to its existing deployments in Equinix global data centres in New York, Singapore and Hong Kong.
“Approximately $2 trillion of trades are made every day from our LD4 data centre which is helping to facilitate the enormous growth of interconnection bandwidth in London. We are delighted that Options is expanding its presence in LD4 and leveraging our global platform and mature financial services and cloud ecoystems,” said Russell Poole (pictured), managing director at Equinix UK.
To date, the partnership between the two companies has enabled Equinix customers to access more than 1,600 network and 2,750 cloud and IT service providers. In turn the newly expanded LD4 facilities will enable Options to increase its performance, reduce the time it takes to provision services and improve its resiliency and reliability.
“We are delighted to continue our long-standing partnership with Equinix by deploying our services in their newly extended LD4 data centre,” said Richard Hughes, SVP managing director for Europe at Options. “Options’ customers require best-in-breed low latency and the ability to deliver new services to a predictable timescale. While cross connects from alternative data centre providers can take up to two weeks, Equinix facilitate dedicated connectivity in less than 24 hours. Regardless of location, our Equinix account team continues to bolster our global colocation services and has demonstrated insightful perspective on the financial technology driving local markets.”
According to the recently published Global Interconnection Index (GXI), by the year 2021, cloud and IT services across Europe are predicted to be the second largest industry by interconnection bandwidth. Driven by cloud service providers such as Options, London’s interconnection bandwidth alone is set to grow by a 52% compound annual growth rate.
The news follows an announcement from Equinix earlier this month that it is investing £90 million in a new flagship data centre, LD7, at its London Slough campus. The new international business exchange (IBX) site announcement by the global interconnection and data centre company is part of a fleet of new and expanded facilities on Equinix’s London Slough campus, and is due to open in early 2019.
