NTT Communications (NTT Com), through its subsidiary e-shelter, is to build a new data centre campus in the UK.

e-shelter, one of the leading data centre providers in Europe, has secured full planning permission for the new facility, meaning that work in the new campus in Dagenham, East London can begin.

“We are delighted to have now received planning permission at our Dagenham site and we look forward to developing our industry leading data centre campus there, which is the latest addition to our growing pan European platform,” said Rupprecht Rittweger, CEO of e-shelter and Gyron. “London is a major global data centre market and this development is driven by continued demand from our customers and partners.”

The new campus known as UK London 1 Data Center (London 1), will deliver up to 24,000sqm of IT space and 60MW T load once completed. The development project also includes Gyron, another NTT subsidiary and UK operator that is being integrated with e-shelter to create a combined pan-European operating platform.

The new site will stay in keeping with e-shelter’s existing business model of a flexible, scalable campus that offers both traditional wholesale and retail colocation as well as hybrid IT solutions to support customers across the various market segments.

In addition, the new facility will offer its customers and partners access to the e-shelter Innovation Lab, a test facility where customers, service providers and technology partners can work together, exchange ideas and trial test solutions in a love data centre environment without having to commit to purchasing.

By choosing, to build in Dagenham NTT will also contribute to the regeneration of the Dagenham and Barking borough. Construction in Dagenham is due to begin this November, with phase one, an initial build of 8MW IT load, due for completion by December 2019.

In related news, back in August Deutsche Telekom’s International Carrier Sales & Solutions (ICSS) launched two new IP points of presence in Frankfurt and Berlin hosted in e-shelter data centres.
