Aloo Telecom selects Infinera to scale Brazilian network

Aloo Telecom, one of the largest telecommunications groups in Brazil, has selected Infinera to expand its network across Brazil.

Using Infinera’s Cloud Xpress and DTN-X solutions Aloo was able to meet increasing bandwidth demand in its long haul and data centre interconnect networks. Aloo serves more than 3,000 private and public sector customers including cloud operators, internet content providers and service providers in 14 Brazilian states.

“Demand for bandwidth continues to grow across Brazil as more businesses move to cloud and broadband operators to expand their footprint in the region,” said Sérgio Brito, director of operations, Aloo Telecom. “Infinera's solutions are performing better than advertised at delivering the capacity we need, where and when we need it.”

The Infinera Cloud Xpress and DTN-X with instant bandwidth allow Aloo to activate additional capacity in minutes and pay for the capacity as it is activated, reducing the initial cost of deployment while increasing Aloo’s competitive edge in the market. This is crucial as demand for capacity on Aloo's network continues to grow.

“Aloo's commitment to bring scalable bandwidth across Brazil aligns with our goal to bring easy-to-deploy, terabit-scale networks to all of Latin America,” said Bob Jandro, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Infinera. “We are honoured help Aloo as they expand their network.”

Earlier this month, TalkTalk Telecom deployed Infinera’s XTM II platform into its metro aggregation network, allowing it to quickly deliver reliable and scalable services to both its residential and business customers.

In addition, the intelligent transport network provider also completed a number of successful submarine field trials over the MAREA subsea cable. MAREA is Facebook, Microsoft and Telxius's 6,600km, eight fibre pair, 160Tbps, submarine cable connecting Virginia and Spain. The trials achieved new records for trans-Atlantic real-time spectral efficiency, peaking at:

  • 6.21 bits per second per hertz (b/s/Hz) over 6,644 km, translating to a fibre capacity of 26.2Tbps

  • 4.46 b/s/Hz over 13,210 km for 18.6Tbps fibre capacity.
