The combined US company formed by RCN, Grande and Wave Broadband has appointed Paul Koss as SVP of carrier and wholesale.

The company said that Koss – previously a VP at Wave Broadband, a fibre company on the US West Coast – is tasked with creating a unified company strategy to grow the carrier and wholesale business, including cell backhaul, across the company’s footprint.

The group, which still operates under its three names, was formed when private equity investor TPG Capital said in May 2017 that it was backing RCN/Grande to combine with Wave Broadband for $2.36 billion. The deal was closed in January 2018.

TPG Capital had previously bought RCN and Grande for $2.25 billion in 2015. It is also a partner in one of the $1.1 billion bids for Global Cloud Xchange. TPG Capital is not related to the Australian telecoms group TPG that said yesterday it is negotiating a merger with Vodafone Hutchison Australia.

At the same time the new group has appointed Patrick Knorr to the new role of chief commercial officer and EVP of commercial services. He was previously EVP of business solutions for Wave Broadband.

Knorr said: “At a time when innovation in technology is thriving, the security and reliability of fibre connectivity has become fundamental to economic growth for enterprises of all sizes. As an organisation, we are committed to making fibre infrastructure more accessible and affordable to support today’s technological marketplace.”
