The global carrier said its new PoP will allow it to offer high-quality global IP transit services to a number of companies which have set up European headquarters in the Irish city over the last few years.
NTT Com customers will be able to connect to its Global IP Network, which reaches over 190 countries and regions, through Equinix’s DB1 facility, which is one of the most densely connected IBX facilities in Ireland. The carrier said it will offer numerous capacity levels, including 100G ports, with direct connections to Amsterdam and London already confirmed.
“The new PoP in Dublin fits our strategy to take NTT Com’s global backbone into some of the fastest-growing Internet markets,” said Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of NTT Communications Global IP Network at NTT America.
Ireland is seen as a growing market, with investment in data centres across the country expected to reach €9 billion by 2021, according to Host in Ireland. Part of this is driven by significant outside investment, with the likes of Apple, Amazon and Facebook all developing facilities in or around Dublin.
The deployment of the Irish PoP is just the latest addition in the UK and Ireland for NTT Com. In May, it added a new point of presence at Equinix’s MA4 IBX data centre in Manchester, England.
Equinix’s MA4 data centre enables direct interconnection to IX Manchester and the London Internet exchange, LINX, as well as a wide range of network service providers and major cloud service providers.
On the new Dublin PoP, Wheeler added: ““This location will not only serve new customers looking for high-capacity, high-quality IP transit services but also many of our current global customers that have established operations or are considering expansions in the Dublin area. Overall, this is a very exciting market for us.”
