Coriant Groove G30 sets new industry benchmarks

Coriant has launched a new coherent multiservice sled for its Coriant Groove G30 that enhances the capabilities of the network disaggregation platform.

The solution is powered by Coriant CloudWave optics technology and the 1.2Tbps modular sled uses advanced in integrated photonics and the latest 16nm coherent DSP to set new industry benchmarks, including the lowest cost-per-bit for 100G and 400G interconnect services.

Commenting on the news Tim Doiron, principal analyst of intelligent networking at ACG Research, said: “The ability to easily and cost-efficiently scale remains critical for network operators as they struggle to keep pace with the explosive demand for optical interconnect capacity. Coriant’s modular, high-density, innovative design has played a critical role in the Groove G30’s increasing adoption across multiple customer segments, including global Tier 1 operators, the largest Internet content providers, and leading cable/MSOs. These advances promise to further differentiate the network disaggregation platform and help operators to cost-effectively scale their optical transport networks.”

According to the company, other benchmarks set by the new Groove G30 coherent multi-service sled include:

  • Highest density. The system supports 9.6Tbps of capacity in a compact and highly modular 1RU, double the improvement of the closest comparable solution, delivering high operating expenditure savings as networks scale.

  • Lowest power consumption. The Groove G30 coherent multiservice sled requires only 0.16 watts per gigabit of power, representing up to half the power consumption of competing solutions.

  • Advanced programmability. The offering has a programmable baud rate (30-70G baud), FEC (0-27%), and modulation depth (QPSK to 64QAM) enabling operators to fine-tune and cost-optimise any transport application for the optimal spectral efficiency, lowest latency and required transparent reach.

  • Unmatched speed and reach. Lastly the solution offers 600Gbps single wavelength transmission for DCI and metro applications (up to 38.4Tbps of capacity per fibre); 400Gbps up to 1,000 kilometers, and 200Gbps up to 4,000 kilometers for long-haul applications.

Corient says the coherent multi-service sled reinforces the operational value of the Groove G30’s architecture because it enables pay-as-you-grow scalability, fast deployment and service activation, and simple integration into data centre, cloud, and telecom operational environments. Additionally, the company says that the solution offers simplified upgrades to 400G over legacy dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) infrastructure, without the need for complete overhaul upgrades or costly and complex flexi-grid ROADMs.

“Our design philosophy from the outset was focused on giving our customers the ultimate in configuration flexibility at the lowest cost,” said Željko Bulut, product line manager of Coriant Groove. “With the latest advances to our open Groove G30 Network Disaggregation platform, we maintain our market leadership in reach and capacity across the full range of applications, including access, DCI, metro, long haul, and submarine transport.”

Attesting to the success of the Groove G30 solution, Felipe Cucalón, chief of network at Telefónica Colombia, said: “We’ve been extremely pleased with the performance of the Coriant Groove G30, which is currently deployed in our network to support cost-efficient 100G service delivery. With the fast pace and unpredictable demands of today’s bandwidth growth, the ability to leverage the modularity of the platform to scale to higher speed services without the need for expensive forklift upgrades is an attractive feature.”
