STC appoints Al Nasser as acting CEO

Saudi Telecom Company has appointed Nasser Bin Sulaiman Al Nasser as acting CEO of the company, replacing Khaled Bin Hussain Biyari, who has been appointed as assistant minister of defence for executive affairs by the Saudi government.

The kingdom made a raft of royal decrees, which included the replacement of a number of Defense Ministry officials. This included naming Biyari as assistant defense minister, leading to his resignation from STC.

The STC board approved his resignation after more than three years in the role, saying: “The Board of Directors expressed their thanks and appreciation to HE Dr. Khaled Bin Hussain Biyari for his excellent efforts during the tenure of the CEO of the Company, wishing him success in his new position.”

Current chief operating officer Al Nasser will initially take on the role of acting CEO for a six month period, STC said in a statement.

He has extensive experience in the telecommunications sector started with the launch of mobile services in 1996, where he played a key role in the establishment of the mobile network and its expansions. He then moved to CITC, where he played a key role in opening the market and issuing mobile and data licenses.

Al Nasser has also held positions with Mobily, looking after the network and technology sector, before joining STC as senior VP for technology and operations in 2015.
