The new data centre will provide underserved regions in South America with high-quality, low-latency content delivery, cloud access and international interconnectivity in an N+1 and carrier neutral facility.
“We are very excited to welcome EdgeConneX’s innovative Edge Data Center model to Argentina, which is clearly in line with Argentina’s Data Center Promotion Project, an Argentine government effort led by the Argentina Investment and Trade Promotion Agency. The new Buenos Aires EDC will provide the region with economic growth through the introduction of cutting-edge technology and connectivity, making Argentina a more attractive location for data investment by enterprises across a wide range of industries,” said Francisco Cabrera, minister of production of Argentina.
The facility is to be built in partnership with the Argentina Investment and Trade Promotion Agency (AAICI), Silica Networks, and an operated with an extensive network of ecosystem and peering partners. This includes Claro Argentina, Internexa, IPLAN, Metrotel, Telecom Argentina, and access to regional Internet exchanges.
“As a result of the impending Buenos Aires EDC, many local market customers will gain the ability to access and utilize a wider range of cutting-edge cloud services,” explained Horacio Martinez, CEO of Silica Networks. “The establishment of this EDC will provide substantial economic savings as well as low-latency connectivity for the transmission of bandwidth-intensive data and content, making it easier than ever for regional enterprises to implement advanced cloud strategies.”
Located at Parque Industrial Pilar, a large industrial hub in South America, the new facility will sit among hundreds of national and multinational companies.
“We are pleased to embrace EdgeConneX and their new facility here in Pilar,” adds Nicolas Ducote, Mayor of Pilar. “We are delighted that they chose our city as their inaugural locale in South America. Their investments will contribute to the development and growth of a vast Internet ecosystem and we look forward to supporting their effort across Argentina.”
The Buenos Aires Edge Data Centre will serve as a robust connectivity and peering platform, offering extensive fibre, density and peering options to customers with wholesale economics.
“We are thrilled to extend the Internet’s Edge into South America, specifically into the Buenos Aires market,” says Clint Heiden, chief commercial officer, EdgeConneX. “As we continue to expand the edge globally in partnership with our customers, we look forward to enhancing the Internet in Buenos Aires by facilitating the fastest and most reliable delivery of cloud, content, network and other services closer to their end users.”
