NBN (National Broadband Network) has extended its fixed wireless and Sky Muster managed services partnership with Ericsson through to the year 2020.

Under the extended agreement Ericsson will continue to be responsible for NBN’s fixed wireless operations and ground systems operations for Sky Muster, NBN’s satellite service. In addition to customer connections and assurance for both technologies.

Commenting on the news Emilio Romeo, managing director of Ericsson Australia and New Zealand, said: “As we extend our strategic partnership with NBN Co, we look forward to continuing the delivery of fixed wireless and satellite services to regional and rural Australia. The availability of ubiquitous broadband to homes and businesses across Australia will help to bridge the digital divide and support economic and community growth.”

NBN’s fixed wireless and Sky Muster services cover more than 980,000 homes in Australia with more than 290,000 homes connected to broadband services via NBN’s retail service providers.

Last month, NBN launched its 1Gbps enterprise Ethernet product as well as a number of accelerated product and service updates to its wholesale offering. The decision was made to help its internet and phone providers meet the demands of medium, enterprise and government businesses migrate to NBN’s broadband access network.
