Virtual PoP in Hanoi for GCX as Vietnam’s CMC Telecom gets access to HK and Singapore

Vietnam’s CMC Telecom is partnering with Global Cloud Exchange (GCX) to provide IP transit in Hong Kong and Singapore.

The deal will also give GCX a virtual point of presence in Hanoi, said the companies this morning.

“South-east Asia is a key growth market for GCX, and building our presence in Vietnam fills an important gap in that strategy. We are very pleased to have CMC Telecom as our partner, with its nimbleness and customer-focused attitude,” said Fabrizio Civitarese, GCX’s president of Asia Pacific.

The deal will enable GCX to expand its network reach in Indochina and use CMC Telecom’s network to deliver low-latency and secure connectivity solutions for its customers. CMC Telecom, in turn, will get access to GCX’s high-performance IP Transit global network.

Dang Tung Son, deputy CEO of CMC Telecom, said: “We are delighted to partner with GCX as it offers unmatched global cable assets and low-latency connectivity to major global and regional entities. GCX will be an important partner to support CMC Telecom’s goal to become a key regional provider.”

CMC Telecom, the only 100% private telecoms company in Vietnam, is jointly owned by an ICT firm in Vietnam, the CMC group, and Time dotcom, a Malaysian fixed-line service provider.

The companies said that combining GCX’s global sub-sea cable and terrestrial networks with the strength and skills of CMC Telecom in its local market will provide enhanced coverage and diversity options to many organisations.

GCX owns a private undersea cable system spanning more than 68,000 route km, which is integrated with Reliance Communications’ 200,000 route km of domestic backbone fibre in India.
