ZTE wins majority bid to build China Unicom’s IMS network

ZTE has won a 47% share of the bid for China Unicom’s IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) network project.

The IMS project that was announced back in 2013, will see China Unicom offer a range of new and applications such as VoLTE and RCS(Rich Communication Suite), one number with multiple devices, VoWiFi and 5G voice services etc.

As the winner of the largest share of the whole project, ZTE will serve 18.58 million subscribers and the construct China Unicom’s IMS network in 10 northern Chinese provinces and cities including: Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Henan among others.

Additionally, ZTE will rebuild China Unicom’s current fixed network into an IMS network on a larger scale and eventually developing it into a fully-convergent FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence) architecture.

This news follows ZTE’s winning of a 70% share of China Mobile’s CM-IMS network VoLTE project back in 2015. For them ZTE deployed newly-commissioned networks and upgraded existing networks. Of the 12 tranches in the new network portion of the CM-IMS Phase 2 project, covering 28 provinces, ZTE won a 70% market share in seven tranches and 100% allocation in three further tranches.

ZTE IMS fully enhances user experience, and supports smooth evolution to future 5G network.  It is also perfectly integrated with 3rd party components horizontally and vertically to lead network transformation. So far, ZTE has deployed over 280 IMS commercial/trial projects, including over 70 vIMS projects around the world.

ZTE recently announced that it was partnering with China Mobile on six new 5G service initiatives, during the China Mobile Global Partners Conference 2017. The new offerings are focussed on six key areas for their new service offerings: Mobile Internet, unveiled its 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), smart home, smart education, big video, and terminal services. They include: 5G NR IoDT test, 5G Experience Car, 5G Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), 5G Wireless Access, 5G Submarine and 5G VR cloud game.
