Hawaiki deploys PoP in Peak 10 + ViaWest data centre

Peak 10 + ViaWest’s Brookwood data centre in Hillsboro, Ore, has been selected by Hawaiki Submarine Cable to launch its US point of presence (PoP).

The 14,000km cable will stretch across the Pacific Ocean becoming the first carrier neutral, low latency, fibre-optic connection between the continental US, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and American Samoa, carrying up to 43Tbps.

Speaking on being selected, Chris Downie, CEO for Peak 10 + ViaWest, said: "We are thrilled that Hawaiki Submarine Cable chose our Brookwood data center as the termination point for its highly-anticipated cable system. We are committed to delivering new and industry-leading interconnection services to our customers, enabling fast, secure and reliable connections to their operations, partners and end users across the globe. We're extremely proud to offer this new capability."

Using the 100 Gigabit network backbone, customers in any of the 40 Peak10 + ViaWest data centres across the US will have access to the Hawaiki cable through a simple cross connect. Additionally, customers in any of the other Hillsboro-area data centres can access the Hawaiki cable using metro cross-connects on the Coastcom Hillsboro Data Center Fiber Ring.

Randy Neals, president of business development for Hawaiki Cable North America, commented: "Hawaiki selected Peak 10 + ViaWest because of its long experience in the Hillsboro market. Oregon is the home of hyperscale cloud computing on the US west coast, and Hillsboro is the fiber optic hub where the networks of all major cloud computing companies and internet service providers converge and interconnect".

While Tim Groser, New Zealand ambassador to the United States, spoke on the need for this new connectivity saying: "The New Zealand business community is excited for all that the Hawaiki cable will provide. With faster links and seamless connectivity to the rest of the world, New Zealand's economy is sure to benefit from our direct fiber connection to the Peak 10 + ViaWest Brookwood facility."

In August of this year, the Zayo Group announced that it would begin providing Peak 10 customers with its CloudLink services as part of a new agreement. Available in seven Peak 10 data centres, the new service will provide dedicated, high-performance bandwidth options, enabling secure connectivity directly to major public cloud providers.
