Utilitalia, which represents electricity, gas, water and environmental management companies, has signed at agreement with the telecoms company to harmonise access rules as TIM develops ultra-fast networks.
The rules will cover the use of existing infrastructure, including pipes, ducts and street lights. It is a non-exclusive framework agreement, said TIM and Utilitalia, that “defines a single procedure that is immediately operative and applicable on a national level to regulate operations for the access and joint use of the infrastructures of the companies adhering to the federation”.
TIM, the trading name for Telecom Italia, said: “This initiative provides a further boost to the development of TIM’s fibre optic network.” The network already covers 71% of Italy’s national territory, including more than 17 million homes in around 2,100 municipalities. TIM is investing €11 billion in Italy between 2017 and 2019, of which €5 is “dedicated exclusively to the development of fixed and mobile ultra-broadband”.
