Telia and Telenor to outsource joint venture mobile network in Denmark

Telia and Telenor have picked Nokia to manage their joint mobile radio network in Denmark from the beginning of October.

The network covers more than 4,000 mobile sites around Denmark and Nokia will take over all operational and development tasks, and provide network planning and optimisation, network implementation, and network operations for the network.

Nokia will expand network capacity, ensure a quality boost in the customer experience and pave the way for the introduction of new technologies, said a statement from the three companies.

Igor Leprince, president of global services at Nokia, said: “Telia and Telenor are focused on exceeding the requirements of their customers. In selecting their new managed services provider, the operators highlighted the need for experience, quality, capacity and, not least, security. Nokia will provide the two operators services that will allow them to deliver the best experience to their customers.”

Telia – then TeliaSonera – and Telenor took the decision to unify their network in Denmark six years ago, covering 2G, 3G and 4G services. The network is run by a joint company, TT.

Two years ago the two companies wanted to merge their operations fully into a 50-50 owned mobile business, but they abandoned the plan after the European Commission set conditions which Telenor and Telia did not find acceptable.
